Where we’re at with ‘Right to Repair’ in the heavy-duty aftermarket
January 18, 2023 – An agreement has been struck between farmers and a major equipment manufacturer in what may signal a larger movement afoot in the right to repair debate.
Right to Repair is an ongoing effort to make vehicle service data available to the vehicle owners and service providers. Basically, it’s the battle for truck data visibility, actionability and ownership. That battle continues to evolve as trucks become more connected and data-driven. Imagine a future where the only way to connect with the truck is wirelessly (no scan tools necessary) and the data is only accessible through a specific data portal. MEMA and Auto Care Association are working with Congress to make vehicle data readily available.
At Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week, Ann Wilson, senior vice president, government affairs, MEMA, and Lisa Forshee, senior vice president, government affairs, Auto Care Association, took the the stage to explain why Right to Repair is important to the heavy-duty aftermarket and what support the trucking industry needs to provide to help the cause.
